Hope and Peace for Children

CCP Japan、a non-governmental organization established in 1986, boasts various health and educational programs for supporting Palestinian and other vulnerable communities. CCP Japan’s main target beneficiaries are children, mothers and the persons with disabilities (PWD).

CCP Japan’s projects are supported mainly by Japanese government, the Japan Platform, UN organizations, as well as civil society organizations and individuals. CCP Japan is a charitable organization for which contributions are tax-deductible in Japan.

1. Emergency Humanitarian Relief

"GAZA"
In response to 2014 and 2021 hostilities in Gaza, CCP Japan has implemented several emergency humanitarian relief projects, including distribution of food and non-food items and provision of psycho-social support to thousands of needy families. For 7 years after the end of the 2014 hostility in Gaza, CCP Japan has also provided physiotherapy, psycho-social support and assistive devices to 1,500 injured people and persons with disabilities for improvement of their physical conditions and quality of life. In addition, nutritional conditions of 4,000 children have been improved with medical follow up and counselling with their families.

Main activities:
1. Distribution of Food and non-food items
2. Provision of psycho-social support
3. Provision of physiotherapeutic care for the children and youth severely injured or with physical disabilities
4. Provision of assistive devices
5. Provision of medicines and supplements for children with poor nutritional conditions and their families
6. Assisting caregivers of the persons with severe injury and disabilities

"LEBANON"
Since 1948, many Palestinian refugees has fled to Lebanon and more than 200,000 people live there today. After Syrian crisis, one million Syrian refugees and 50,000 Palestinian refugees from Syria has also fled into Lebanon. CCP Japan has provided supports to these refugees who has no access to the civil rights in Lebanon. Every year, 600 children on average have received support for their education, 3,000 have received dental care and 300 has received psychiatry treatments. Up to 3,000 families have received food and non-food items, and 2,500 families have received hygiene kits and hygiene education.

Main activities:
1. Distribution of food, non-food items and fuel for heaters
2. Provision of learning support for the children at the kindergarten and early elementary level.
3. Provision of psychosocial support, psychiatry treatment and dental care for children and their families
4. Provision of hygiene education and activities for prevention of COVID-19 infection

In the wake of the huge explosion in the Beirut Port in August 2020, more than 200 lives have been lost. CCP has provided assistance to 100 injured people and the persons with disabilities who could not receive any support from anyone else.

Main activities:
1. Provision of physiotherapeutic care and psycho-social support for the people severely injured or with physical disabilities
2. Provision of assistive devices and hygiene kits

"Japan"
In response to a series of tsunami and earthquake in the north-eastern Japan, CCP Japan has launched emergency relief program in Japan.

Main activities:
1. Provision of cooked meals, food and non-food items
2. Construction of child-friendly space and provision of learning support
3. Cleaning photos and personal belongings washed away with floods, and returning to the owners, victim families of the tsunami.
4. Archiving 300,000 photos for victim families of the tsunami.

2. Education

CCP Japan has implemented education projects to improve of science education at the primary schools in Palestine since 2018. The projects have provided: equipment for science experiment, rehabilitation of school laboratories; and training of science teachers both in the West Bank and the Gaza strip. For first three years, 60 schools has been supported with rehabilitation of the science labs and equipment for experiment. 120 teachers participated in the practical training and on the job training. 5,000 pupils participated science experiment classes, school trips and received the individual science experiment kits

3. Inclusion and Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (PWD)

CCP Japan has been providing support to the persons with disabilities.
Major activities:
1 . Conducting Peer to peer support, vocational training and internship for leadership-building workshops and sports activities PWDs
2 . Conducting workshops for empowerment for the caregivers
3 . Conducting trainings for medical staff, psychologist and social workers to develop the skills and knowledge of inclusion of PWDs and International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF),
4 . Renovation of clinics and support equipment of physiotherapy

4. Psycho-social support

Given the severe economic and living conditions in Gaza along with the protracted humanitarian crises, there have been group of many vulnerable people such as PWDs, children and mothers in the low-income households, needing psychosocial support. CCP Japan has various psycho-social activities to those vulnerable people through many different projects.

In Lebanon, in cooperation with the organizations specialized in child psychiatric care, CCP Japan has implemented outreach activities in refugee camps including: home visits, individual counselling, workshops, public family events, and awareness sessions.

5. Mother and Child Health

Due to the prolonged siege and the continuous military hostilities in Gaza, many families live under the poverty line and many children and pregnant women are in bad nutritional conditions. CCP Japan has supported women with antenatal and postnatal cares as well as infants with nutritional counselling and medical follow up. Each year, pregnant women on average along with new-born babies have received antenatal and postnatal services. Further, thousands of infants have been assessed for nutritional conditions. For raising awareness activities, 30 women in the community have been trained as the Mother and Child Health Advisers, who are providing basic knowledge of child development and reproductive health to the community members on a daily basis.

6. Early awareness of Breast Cancer

CCP has implemented a project to combat breast cancer in Gaza since 2016.
The project has not only worked on improving the equitable access to quality health services, but also has assisted women overcoming the fear and barriers to fight the social stigma of breast cancer within their communities in Gaza. It also improved the availability of the free medical examinations at several medical centers in Gaza. Each year, 3,000 women on average have had opportunities for early detection, and more than 500 survivors have received sufficient treatment and support in a timely manner. For raising public awareness on breast cancer and its early detection, more than 12,000 women and men have participated in the workshops, and the videos and animations have had more than 50,000 views each year.

7. School for deaf children

CCP Japan has been supporting the school for the deaf children in Gaza since 1992. The deaf school has provided education and integrated services for deaf children and their families, including audiology and speech therapy, income generation programs, vocational training, teacher and community trainings, and awareness workshops. CCP Japan also has marketed the products with traditional Palestinian embroidery and other crafts, made by the persons with hearing disabilities.

8. Child-Friendly Spaces

CCP has been supporting the children and youth centers in Gaza since 2006. The children and youth centers have provided diverse recreational activities (e.g. art, music, and theater) and learning support for many children aged 6 to 12 years old. The center also is a safety place for mothers.

9. Support Bedouin Children

Since 2016, CCP has supported the Arab-Bedouin citizens in Israel, including empowering Arab- Bedouin children to take active roles in revitalizing their communities in Negev regions. Main activities include conducting photo workshops for the children and curating exhibitions for those photos taken by them.

10. The past projects include:

1. Psychological support for children and mothers in the rural area of Jenin and Ramallah (from 2002 to 2011)
2. Empowerment of the Agriculture Sector, Training and Promotion of Ecological and Sustainable Agriculture in the Gaza Strip (from 2009 to 2014)
